Moss Cap is a better “human” than any human, in the sense of one who thinks of themselves as separate from nature.
Many modern humans think of themselves as separate from and above nature, and this gives them license to dominate or abuse it. However, that domination and abuse only reveals their deep interdependence with nature, though the relationship has been twisted.
On the other hand, the robot Moss Cap will not even collect a shell from the beach, because a creature might need it for a home. It will not even use dairy plastic for repair if he does not know the cow it came from. It will not participate in fishing since its lack of need for sustenance would turn the activity into needless killing. It is Moss Cap who adheres most truly to the idea of being separate from nature, and strangely, in this way, shows such a deep respect for nature.
